Lots of travelers say Lake Como is touristy and touristy places don’t have good food or wine. Even when you look at Google maps, average ratings for restaurants in Bellagio and Varenna (two most popular towns in Lake Como) do seem lower. However, I found the food and drink options to be perfectly fine, especially if you know where to do. Here are a few spots where I had great food and wine.
Enoteca Cava Turacciolo
Awesome wine bar with a huge wine list/book. Outdoor searing with a wine barrel table is adorable and so is the cave-like tasting room inside. You can get a lot of different wines by the glass or do a tasting flight. Owner had amazing recommendation as well and we ended up getting a rare Italian sparkling made in a traditional method for a fraction of the price of Champagne. Good snack options as well.
La Terrazza in Hotel Belvedere
I found this place last minute as I didn’t plan ahead and all “popular restaurants” in Bellagio were already fully booked. I’m not sure why this place wasn’t because it had a great view, delicious upscale food, and amazing wine list that is well-priced. Maybe this is hidden because it’s part of a hotel and a bit of a walk from the main town? Even their selection of free bread were all so delicious. Sommelier was the nicest and had a great Champagne and Bourgogne Pinot recommendation. I’m totally going back if I’m in Bellagio!
La Dolce Vita
This is hidden in one of the many small adorable streets in Bellagio. Outdoor tables on the street are so fun! Had one of the best pesto pastas I’ve had, along with a huge octopus dish.
Il Molo
This place is more for the view vs. food but the view and the vibe makes it worth it! We stopped for a quick drinks and it was nice to just sip and look at the adorable view of Varenna.
Il Cavatappi
Cozy restaurant away from the crowded main streets of Varenna. Fun traditional but innovative menu from seafood, pasta, to meat dishes. Loved the squid dish I had!
